8 Things You Should Never Do On A Date

Unless you want to lose him.

Most of us if not all of us have experienced the so-called date from hell. You were so excited and it eventually turned out to be a night you never want to remember. Heck, you don’t want to see the guy again, ever!

On the flip side, you have just met the man of your dreams and he’s eventually worked up some courage and asked you out. You are so excited and can’t wait for the material day.

Your friends have suggested a million and one things and all you can do is imagine how super the night will be, just you and him.

Allow me to interrupt the beautiful things you are imagining by reminding you about a few things you shouldn’t do during the date.

1. Being Late Is The Ultimate Mood Killer.

No one wants to be sitting in a restaurant with an empty chair, waiters approaching the table only to be told several times that ‘I’m waiting for my date”.

It leaves a bad taste in the mouth and you will have to jump the hoops to convince him that you are worth the time and effort.

If it’s something beyond your control, make sure he knows. Arriving late shows a lack of respect for his time and yours. It doesn’t matter how fabulous you look, he’ll have checked out and ready to wind up the night.

2. Belittle The Staff.

They might be there to serve you but they still need to be respected. If you are rude to the waiter, he’ll think twice about you ASAP and just like that, you’ve lost a potential relationship

How much does it cost you to be gracious and understanding? If you are looking down on them, it’s just a matter of time before you do the same to him, at least that’s what he’ll think.

3. He’s Not Interested In Your Ex(es).

This date is about you and him not what happened in your previous relationship. Bringing all that baggage is a turn-off. If you still have unresolved issues, handle them separately.

Your new guy is not a counsellor or psychologist. He wants to enjoy time with you and know more about you. Don’t make him feel uncomfortable.

4. Being Glued On Your Phone.

This is not the time for you to take pictures and post them on Instagram. It’s a date, not a social media party or session. Leave that for late. Plus, he might not want to have his pictures taken or be in your IG reels, at least not yet, so be considerate. Unless you have an emergency - you should have told him about - keep your phone out of sight and have it on mute.

5. Dominate The Conversation.

Be conscious enough and allow him to take part in the conversation. It’s rude to do most of the talking. Realize that it’s a conversation and not a monologue. Perhaps he would have just sat home and turned on the radio instead.

6. Poor Grooming.

The last thing you want to do is be underdressed or overdressed. Make sure you know the venue and tailor your outfit to that. A shabbily dressed person kills the mood and is not pleasant to be around.

7. Watch Your Drinks.

The rule is, half a glass is enough for the night. If you must, don’t go beyond a glass. Keep it light because you don’t want to lose yourself and be in a situation where he’s taking you home whilst saying things you shouldn’t say. You can never get him back after this.

8. Being Too Handsy.

Yes, you are excited but keep in mind that it’s only a first date. He’s not yet yours. As such, limit the amount of touch. You don’t want to give the wrong signal. Also, you need to read between the lines and find out how comfortable he is around you.
