When fame sets in, it comes with a lot of things, some of which help celebrities to scale further and others hold them back. We’ve heard a lot about the struggles that celebrities face and one that ranks high up the list is drug abuse.
Some of them are brave enough to share their struggles with their fans, how they overcame and why they changed their minds about their use of alcohol, which is the substance in focus.
Without further ado, let’s look at some of the local female celebrities who quit alcohol.
1. Sanaipei Tande.

Whilst she said that she was never an addict, she decided to refocus her life and that meant ditching the bottle, a decision she made in 2019 but only acted upon it in 2021. The result of her decision, she says, led to better opportunities and peaceful life.
What does she take now? She proudly said tea and water are her choices of drink.
2. Janet Mbugua.

She took this path because at the moment, alcohol “is not serving her’. Will she go back? Janet doesn’t provide a conclusive answer. When she goes out with her family and friends, she restrains herself from drinking but still manages to have fun.
“I mean, the difference is neither here nor there. I just feel like it’s not something I need to do now. And I say it’s not a big deal. I don’t wake up thinking about it all the time.” She told Nairobi News
3. Wilbroda.

"First of all, I have to say I had to stop drinking because the drinking was taking over me. I don't have a problem with people drinking, as long as it does not take over your life then it is fine!" She told The Star.
Her son was her saving grace as the radio host said she didn’t want her son to follow the same path. Wilbroda says her decision made her healthier and resulted in a positive relationship with her son.
That said, she admitted to occasionally having a glass or two of wine. Nonetheless, she can go for days and even months without popping the bottle.

4. Nana Gecaga.

“I am 23 years sober today, I do not take it for granted, and I know there a lot of people out there who are struggling with alcoholism, I wanna say…keep on going, the race is with yourself," she told Citizen Digital.
In an interview with a local radio station, Gecaga revealed that her addiction began when she was in university and would consume up to 24 bottles of beer in a day. This derailed her career and she expressed regret at having missed out on the 1996 Summer Olympics which she qualified for.
The mother of three checked into rehab and now encourages people battling alcoholism to seek help and share their stories.
