If you are familiar with the process of growing natural hair, you will know that it is not easy. Natural hair demands a lot of care which includes being religious to routines that'll ensure your hair does not tangle and it remains well-nourished and healthy. Anything other than that leads to an epic disaster.

We are not here to scare you off. Before you think twice about growing natural hair, we'll confidently tell you that it's possible and can be exciting. The rise of the natural hair movement has led to a demand for natural hair products tailored for black hair.

These products vary depending on your preference - what you want to achieve with your hair, the kind of hair type you have and the particulars of the ingredients that will work for you.

You'll find different natural hair product brands in the market, some are homegrown. If you are a natural hair enthusiast, no longer do you have to settle for the next best product because the primary item you are looking for doesn't exist.

Here are five natural hair products that are locally made.

Marini Naturals

@Marini.Naturals
The Founder and CEO of Marini Naturals, Michelle Ntalami started her company in 2013 after she cut her hair and decided to grow it naturally. She realised that there were few Kenyan hair products for natural hair.

Michelle not only sensed an opportunity but she ran away with it. With the help of her friend Niyati Patel, they founded Marini Naturals. Marini has products for women, men, and children who want natural hair products that can care for their coils, curls and kinkiness and still look dapper while at it.

Marini is a Swahili word that translates to naturally beautiful. What Michelle and Niyat primarily focus on is maintaining the moisture in African hair which they say is the key attribute to ensuring that natural hair thrives.

Marini Naturals has a range of products to suit every need. This arguably makes them the best producers of hair products in the country. Their products include hair cleansers, conditioners, moisturizers, stylers as well as pure butter and oils.

Mosara Kenya

@MosaraKenya
Mosara Kenya focuses on all-natural hair care by manufacturing products that are suited to address the needs of natural hair. Their products are 100% natural meaning that the ingredients used are sourced from nature.

The products include moisture milk, hydrating butter, coconut oil, deep treatment, leave-in conditioner and shampoos. Their shampoos are among the sulphate-free shampoos in the country. Mosara aims to nourish, restore and strengthen your natural hair.

BU.KE

@Bu.Ke
The brand’s name literally translates to ‘Buy Kenyan’. BU.KE was founded in 2017 by Lucy King’ori to find a solution for her son, who was born with Eczema, a skin condition that causes irritation. After much frustration of not getting any products locally, she founded the brand.

BU.KE has two product lines for your natural hair. The purple teal line and the green tea line. The products include shampoo bars, leave-in custards and scalp masks. They also offer hair growth stimulating oil which has received outstanding reviews. They are being touted as possibly the best hair growth oil in Kenya.

Sheth Naturals

@SethNaturals
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Dr Gasheri Thuku is yet another woman who, only after going natural, realised the difficulties of finding quality and affordable Kenyan natural hair products.

Just like Michelle Ntalami, Dr Gasheri started her own natural hair product company in 2015, Sheth Naturals. The brand has two product lines, Mzizi and Sheba. Their products cater for every hair texture and curl pattern. Products include hair treatments, hair moisturizers, hair creams & butter and hair oils.

Ajani Handmade

@AjaniHandmade
The brand’s name is a Swahili word derived from ‘Majani’ which means leaves and ‘Kijani’ which means green. They are an embodiment of nature which is the brand’s main focus. Products include hair butter and a range of other products which are oil and water-based.

Ajani Handmade not only caters for the outward look of natural hair but also to the style. The products are tailored to nourish natural hair and also give off a relaxed feel and look. This is achieved through the ingredients used which are raw, pure and naturally occurring. They are created with the intention of refreshing, reviving and rejuvenating natural hair.

If you have been stressing about your curls and your hair care routine has been a pain point for you, then the products listed above will make it easier for you to manage your hair. Get a hold of any of the shampoos, moisturizers, and conditioners - whatever retains your curls, makes them stronger and grows your hair.

Wearing natural hair should give you the freedom that you were looking for. We hope that these products go a long way in helping you achieve that.
